Artists, Engineers & Entrepreneurs: The Art, Science, and Business of Whiskey with Heather Greene

If you’ve ever wanted to know what makes a great whiskey great, then this episode of ae2 is for you. For this interview, we left the office and traveled a little further into the Texas Hill County to Blanco, TX to chat with world-renowned whiskey expert, author of Whiskey Distilled, and master blender, Heather Greene. Greene has a diverse background when it comes to whiskey, and today, she is the CEO at Provision Spirits, the maker of Milam & Greene whiskies.

In this interactive discussion/tasting session, Greene provides a crash course in different types of whiskies and shares the details on how Milam & Greene’s highly experienced team has brought both the art and the science of craft distilling to the Texas Hill Country.

She covers the science of the process that we at Hiller Measurements love, discussing how distilling is impacted by everything from the environmental conditions where the distilling and aging occur to those in the area where the wood for the barrel was sourced from. She also touches on the more artistic side of the process and how a great whiskey can make a person feel something much like a beautiful painting does when the aromatics in whiskey hit the limbic system of the brain, which connects with memories, emotions, and feelings.

To learn more about the art, science, and business of whiskey, and how Milam & Greene creates what Greene refers to as a “beautiful cornucopia of flavors,” check out this episode of ae2 below.

If you are unfamiliar with ae2, this Web-series from Hiller Measurements is a long-form interview-style program that explores thought leaders at the “business end” of companies, creative works, and research. In each episode, Hiller Measurements’ President Jeff Olsen explores the creative drive, personal motivations, and stories of perseverance of visionaries who are still “in the hunt.

Through ae2, our aim is to find the business model in the engineering mind, the drive and technique a gifted artist is developing, and the impact for good that outweighs the personal risk taken on by bold business creators. Overall, the goal of our series is to inspire viewers to step out, build, and create.
